The V2 redesign focuses on the mounting system. It’s stiffer and more secure under load.

• Extended barrel nut and collar: about 30% longer than V1. That means more contact area and friction for a tighter lockup and less deflection under lateral loads.
• Front-to-back mounting screws: the screws on the bottom now run parallel to the barrel instead of across it, which handles lateral loads better.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this fit my AR-15?

The SPEAR XL is designed for use with Forged Upper Receivers, our matching Billet Upper Receiver, and many other designs on the market. In most instances, it will also require the use of a low-profile gas block that fits underneath the rail. Piston systems may also be used, but check with the manufacturer first for exact dimensions. This product will not work with non-milspec upper receivers like the Bushmaster Carbon due to the non-standard barrel threads. We’re always glad to verify the fit for your rifle, just contact us! Will this fit my Suppressor?

The SPEAR XL has a 1.74″ inside diameter, which will accommodate most suppressors for the AR-15. Typically, we recommend a 1.5″ diameter suppressor for use with this handguard, to ensure that the M-LOK slots are still able to be used surrounding the suppressor. Larger suppressors may have trouble fitting M-LOK accessories.

What tools and additional parts are required?

For parts – most setups will require a low-profile gas block. For tools – we recommend:

• A vise and non-marring vise block for holding the upper
• A torque wrench to assure you stay in the AR-15 barrel nut torque range while timing the barrel nut (30-60 ft lbs)

What’s the difference between the SPEAR XL V1 and V2?

The V2 has a barrel nut and collar about 30% longer than the V1, and the mounting screws on the bottom now run front to back instead of side to side. The result is more contact area and a stiffer lockup under lateral loads.

How do I tell if I have a V1 or V2?

With the handguard off, look at the barrel nut and collar. The V2 versions are noticeably longer. With the handguard on, look at the mounting screws on the bottom. On V2 they run front to back (parallel to the barrel), and on V1 they run side to side. V1 and V2 barrel nuts are not interchangeable. If you need a replacement, get the <>SPEAR XL V2 Replacement Barrel Nut Kit. If you have a V1, use the <>original SPEAR XL Replacement Barrel Nut Kit. NOTE: Due to the circular shape of the SPEAR XL handguard, the Magpul Gen 2 MBUS Iron Sights are not able to be activated. However, the Magpul Gen 3 MBUS and other iron sights will fit onto the SPEAR XL with no issue.
